A Day of Education and Celebration at the ASMC Program/Budget Summit and 75th Anniversary Event
Written by: Vera Medici
The American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) kicked off the first event of the new year with the 2nd annual Program/Budget Summit (P/BS) on January 18, 2024, at the Sheraton Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia. Defense financial management (FM) professionals had front row seats to the latest information on key Department of Defense (DoD) FM initiatives, reviewing 2023 and looking to the year ahead.
ASMC packed a wealth of information into the short time frame, with distinguished panelists across defense, federal government, and the private sector. The five topics on the agenda included Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution reform; digital transformation; defense reform; talent management; and auditability. Attendees took full advantage of the opportunity to ask questions following the panel discussions and created an energetic and dynamic dialogue and an atmosphere of unity of purpose while confronting difficult topics head-on.
In between sessions, Management Concepts greeted DoD FM professionals at our booth in the exhibit hall, highlighting our Enhanced Defense Financial Management Training Course (EDFMTC) and status as a CFO Council Trusted Training Education Provider.
After an intense day of learning, P/BS attendees and other ASMC members had the opportunity to unwind at the ASMC 75th Anniversary Reception. Wrapping up its 75th year, ASMC leadership gave remarks, outlined the history of ASMC, and projected plans for continued growth and service to the DoD FM community. Rich Brady, Chief Executive Officer, Glenda Scheiner, national board president, and Ginger Bonin, Corporate Representative, revealed the 75th anniversary time capsule, with plans for it to be opened in another 75 years. In a special moment, ASMC acknowledged the dedicated volunteers of the 75th anniversary committee, which put together many special events and opportunities for ASMC members throughout 2023. Among this group was Tom Devine, product management director, financial management at Management Concepts, and we celebrate his personal and professional dedication to the community he has been proud to be a part of for over 25 years.
