ASMC's Partnership X Management Concepts: Enhancing Defense Financial Management Training for Members icon

Maintaining and delivering courses that are relevant and up-to-date is a significant challenge for any organization, and it can be particularly challenging for a 501c3 not-for-profit organization like the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC). As a not-for-profit, ASMC has limited financial, time, and expert resources to devote to maintaining existing courses while also developing new offerings. Recognizing this challenge, when I became the CEO of ASMC nearly 18 months ago, I immediately initiated a full review of the organization’s products and services to ensure that we were meeting the needs of our 14,000 members and the broader defense financial management community.

Strategy is about choices, and while conducting this review, we realized that divestments of certain products and services were just as important as investments in new offerings. To that end, when we began seeking a training and course-providing partner who had the expertise and knowledge necessary to deliver courses in defense financial management, we were very careful in our selection process. Ultimately, we found that partner in Management Concepts, a world-class training provider with over 50 years of experience in delivering high-quality, instructor-led courses to support the defense financial management community and others.

ASMC has recently entered into an exclusive agreement with Management Concepts to update and deliver the Enhanced Defense Financial Management Training (EDFMT) course, the Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) Refresher Course, and the Acquisition (Book 4) Course. This decision was made so that ASMC could focus on building new educational and professional development offerings while partnering with a top-tier training provider to continue delivering the EDFMT, CDFM Refresher, and Book 4 courses This instruction – through the EDFMT Course, CDFM Refresher Course, and Book 4 Course – meets ASMC’s high standards for delivery, has the most up-to-date information in defense financial management, and fully supports the preparation to enroll in the CDFM exam program.

By collaborating with Management Concepts, ASMC can ensure that our courses are of the highest quality, are delivered by instructors who are experts in the field, and are fully up-to-date with the most current information in defense financial management.

Our partnership with Management Concepts will allow ASMC to continue to provide the highest quality education and professional development opportunities to our members and the broader defense financial management community. We are confident that this collaboration will be a win-win for both organizations and, most importantly, for those individuals seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in defense financial management.
