Blacks in Government: Transformation and Innovation in the Workplace icon

Management Concepts was proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2022 Blacks in Government (BIG) National Training Institute (NTI), which took place August 15-18, 2022 in Cleveland, Ohio. Over 1,200 attendees were excited to see each other face-to-face, make new friends, and reconnect with others.

Conference Day by Day

The 2022 theme, “Training in a Transformed Workplace – Providing Innovative Professional Development” was carried throughout the conference. Sessions touched on hybrid workforces, adapting to changing work environments and workforce needs, and bridging generational and cultural gaps. The conference offered technical sessions and sessions of interest to federal employees, including sessions on divorce and retirement.

Management Concepts was pleased to participate with BIG members throughout the event, presenting our annual Leadership Course, sponsoring the BIG NOW Generation “Munch & Mingle” networking event, announcing our annual BIG-Management Concepts Leadership Certificate Program Scholarship recipient, and welcoming attendees to our exhibit hall booth.

Our one-day Leadership Course on August 16 featured two modules from our Professional Government Supervisor Program, which features 30 topics aligned to the Office of Personnel Management’s Supervisory Training Framework and Senior Executive Service ECQs. This year’s topics were “Managing Change” and “Managing Projects.” This exclusive session was again at maximum capacity, and the instructor and course content received enthusiastic reviews from participants.

Munch and Mingle

Also on the afternoon of the 16th, the BIG NOW Generation “Munch & Mingle” networking event drew nearly 60 young professionals and supporters to discuss career advancement while having fun and making connections. Speakers included Alesia Smith, BIG NOW Generation coordinator; Johnny Barrideaux, coordinator for the Darlene H. Young Leadership Academy; and Steve Maier, president of Management Concepts.

Announcing our Scholarship Winner…

At the President’s Reception on the evening of August 16th, BIG national president Shirley Jones thanked corporate sponsors for their support and presented a plaque to Management Concepts during a photo opportunity. Tekia Winder, BIG corporate sponsorship chair, also called Management Concepts to the podium to announce the winner of the BIG-Management Concepts Leadership Certificate Program Scholarship, a $10,000 value that enables the winner to take the courses to earn a Management Concepts Leadership Certificate, designed for current and prospective leaders at all levels who want to develop stronger leadership capabilities with essential principles, awareness, and practical application of emotional intelligence, engagement, and problem-solving skills. This year, the scholarship was awarded to Chandra Plair of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

While NTI 2022 is over for this year, that is not the end for Management Concepts and the BIG partnership. Stay up to date on all upcoming events, webinars, and other activities by visiting our BIG partnership page.
