Two Decades of Excellence—AAFEA LDW “Leading the Call to Action” icon

Management Concepts is proud to sustain a long-standing partnership with African American Federal Executive Association (AAFEA) for training and professional development and had the pleasure of being the Platinum Sponsor for the 20th annual AAFEA Leadership Development Workshop, “Leading the Call to Action,” in College Park, Maryland, on June 4–6, 2024. Also, Management Concepts offered two preconference sessions, “Executive Leadership Workshop” and “Transitioning to Agile Practices in the Federal Environment,” on June 3. Throughout the conference we shared the joy of celebrating the 20th anniversary with more than 300 AAFEA members and senior-level professionals within the senior ranks of the U.S. government.

The preconference workshop “Executive Leadership Workshop” was structured with an engaging presentation, open Q&A and group work for attendees, and two speakers: Dr. Hannah Toney, director, Custom Learning Solutions, Management Concepts, and Dr. Ryan Simmons, senior manager, Human Capital Advisory Services, Management Concepts. The workshop explored a breadth of topics from change management in support of the project management process to the ways neurodiversity is addressed in the workplace as a component of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives. The classroom was filled with laughter at times, and the audience members were eager to ask questions and connect with speakers. In the other workshop, “Transitioning to Agile Practices in the Federal Environment,” attendees were excited to learn about strategies, practices, and quality concepts that helped facilitate a transition to effective Agile practices that would transform and empower their organizations and engage with other attendees in group work or receive one-on-one guidance and mentoring from speaker Raleigh Griffith, instructor & senior advisor, federal business operations, Management Concepts. Many familiar faces and new acquaintances visited the Management Concepts booth in the exhibit hall to pick up information on our brand-new program: the School of Federal Leadership Excellence (SoFLE). Our knowledgeable staff provided a detailed introduction to the new program, which consists of two hybrid, cohort-based programs thus far, “New Supervisor Immersion Program (NSI)” and “Mid-Level Enrichment (MLE) Program,” where the aspiring supervisors or mid-career leaders can apply learning and practice leadership skills on their journey to achieving leadership goals.

“You can lead and make an impact at any level.” said Joi L. Brown, PhD, human resources director, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The conference was enlightening and motivating, and Managements Concepts is looking forward to future endeavors with AAFEA.
