Mid-Level Enrichment (MLE) Program

Mid-level leaders need business acumen and superior leadership tools to support them both professionally and personally. MLE is a hands-on, experience-based program that sharpens critical skills to prepare for advancement within an agency.

Who Attends

The MLE program assumes 3–5 years of management experience and completion of an in-agency LDP or federally focused leadership certificate program. It is recommended for high-potential managers in the GS-13 to GS-15 levels.

How It Works

Applicants must submit a learner’s application essay, letter of recommendation, and letter of commitment. The program starts with 3 days of instructor-led, in-classroom activities, group projects, and 1:1 executive coaching.

The Details

Students develop business acumen through acquisition, financial management, and data analytics topics, engaging in action learning, service projects, assessments, and receive feedback from coaches, peers, and mentors.

The MLE program exposes learners to key knowledge areas such as federal acquisitions, financial management, and strategic planning.

MLE features cohort-based projects including an agency-specific Action Learning project, a cohort service project, and an individual research assignment.

Driving Results

MLE explores courses such as Data Analytics and Advanced Problem Solving and facilitates intra-agency job shadowing, a 360-degree review, the Hogan Personality Inventory, and the Hogan Development Survey.

MLE provides learners with a range of support including mentorship within the agency, cohort networking opportunities, chances for community-based improvements, and online discussions.

MLE includes essential courses such as Leading Organizational Change and Strategic Planning. The program utilizes a science-based approach to forming new habits so the behaviors needed to support change initiatives are easier to master.
